29 Jan 2007Our colocation facility will be undergoing a power outage tonight/tomorrow morning. I apologize for this, but I’m not the only one it’s affecting, and no one is happy about it.
UPDATE: Power Outage has been re-scheduled. I will post another notice/banner when this date has been passed on to me.

19 Jan 2007Dave Sifry and his team have been very good to me. You know, bite the hand, etc.
But I got up from my afternoon siesta, and found this,
And when I finally did get a copy of the page…
Ouch.
Wonder what a Technorati Monster looks like….
UPDATE, 17:19 Jan 19 2007: Technorati sites are back up. Good to see [...]
You may have noticed some subtle changes in the GrabPERF interface over the last few days. I have been tweaking the layout, of only beause I have a weird screen size (1280X800) and some of the text was falling off the bottom of the short screen.
One part of the update you may miss if you [...]
Well, for some reason that I can’t determine, FeedBurner and my Wordpress.com feed stopped playing nicely this afternoon. And they won’t reload, because Wordpress.com wants to send all 1400+ articles in the database back to FeedBurner.
Sorry to do this to you all, but the FeedBurner feed is removed. Deleted.
Hope y’all switch to the Wordpress.com feed.

29 Sep 2006So far, Google Reader is meeting or exceeding all my expectations in all areas except one: auto-refresh. Bloglines occasionally checks back in and loads up new articles, and it would be great if the Google Reader did the same thing.
UPDATE: Looks the interface does this. My mistake!

4 Sep 2006Canadian soldier killed, others wounded in ‘friendly fire’
KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — U.S. warplanes mistakenly strafed Canadian troops fighting Taliban forces in southern Afghanistan, killing one soldier and seriously wounding five on Monday in an operation that NATO claims has also left 200 insurgents dead.
This is not the first “friendly-fire” incident involving US pilots and Canadian [...]
One of the performance hits that the GrabPERF system has is the dynamic generation of the main page. The nature of the SQL calls and the underlying PHP makes it scale exponentially past a certain number of measurements.
Last night, Kevin Burton made a grand suggestion: generate a static page on a regular schedule.
Duh!

18 Aug 2006I was considering the amazing popularity of Wordpress (the hosted service as well ad the application), now the agreed upon champ in the blogging world. I was considering this in light of the fact that when I started blogging in the dark ages of 2004, MoveableType and TypePad were the undisputed champs.
When did the shift [...]

11 Aug 2006Michael Arrington’s latest Crunch product, CrunchGear, is getting beat up this morning.
Ouch!
In the past, these would not appear as errors, but the new text match feature in GrabPERF is working like a charm. The new code is up on 3 of the 5 measurement agents, and the remaining 2 should be updated by tomorrow.

21 Jul 2006As of right now, five of the seven GrabPERF measurement agents are updated with the new code I created last night.
I am also planning some addition changes to the service, including posts, HTTP Basic authentication, content matching and some basic per-measurement cookie jar technology.
Thank you all for your continued support of GrabPERF.
