My new MacBook arrived two weeks ago, and I felt that I had spent enough time with it to actually make some useful comments on the good, the bad, and the headbangingly frustrating.
The Finder
Dear Apple: Shoot the Finder development team. Thanks.
I have switched to Path Finder as a Finder replacement. Truly the finder is one [...]

When I got home today, Samantha pointed to her computer and said it wouldn’t go. And it won’t
Dead. Deceased. Demised.
Likely a dead motherboard, and on a Dell, it’s not worth repairing. Now good for spare parts.
New refurb from Dell on the way.
Ugh.

What is your wallet?

In: GTD| Life

Merlin Mann has a What’s your favorite minimalist wallet? thread happening over on 43 Folders. [here]
I tried the Jimi. Too small.
This one is perfect.

It’s a business card case I bought at the Dell company store on a business trip 5 years ago. I have used it ever since. Holds more than a Jimi, but those [...]

The Jimi Wallet

I read about the Jimi Wallet on 43 Folders today.
I immediately ordered 2: one for me and one for Samantha.
We have both pared ourselves down to the bare essentials already, and this is one more step in that direction. I can see it being especially useful when you are travelling, when all you really need [...]

I got my brand-new Dimension E310 on Monday — ok, it’s Samantha’s computer and it has been sitting in a box all week because I have been in San Francisco.
I get home, fire it up, throw in the wireless card and works like a charm.
Except for [...]

I have to fly cross-country tomorrow, and the battery life on my (work-provided) Dell Inspiron 8500 is shortly longer than it takes for me to down a shot of tequila.
If you have a spare battery for this laptop that I can beg, borrow, or buy, drop me an e-mail or give me a jingle: 508.410.3865

Finally broke down and bought Samantha a new computer this morning.
Lowest common deniminator machine from Dell. But her current machine is showing its age and it’s time to make it a computer for the boys. I even have a new hard drive for it — the drive that used to hold the GrabPERF database.
Now maybe [...]

Powerbook/iBook

I want one.
<pout>
I hate Windows.
Linux Desktops make me nuts.
And Dell…don’t take me there.

Ok, this is the first post from the new Ubuntu-powered work laptop. I partitioned the drive and installed the OS and the only hiccups have been with Evolution, which I think I have beaten into the ground.
Even the ndiswrapper hack worked perfectly for my wireless card. Nice! This has come a long way since the [...]
