3 Sep 2008Recently there was an outage at a hit-tracking vendor I was using to track the hits on my externally hosted blog, leaving me with a gap in my visitor data several hours long. While this was an inconvenience for me, I realized that this could be mission critical failure to an online business reliant on [...]

20 Sep 2007GrabPERF returned to service at approximately 17:30 GMT (13:30 EDT — 10:30 PDT) September 20 2007. The database server was on all night, but an esoteric choice of primary interfaces (i.e. the least obvious one!) meant that it was taking to empty space.
Have fun and enjoy the data!

22 Aug 2007My system has a daily job to collect and aggregate the IP Blocks distributed by the five registrars into a single database, and then provide high-level WHOIS information for this data. If you want to try this yourself, the interface here.
On an extremely irregular basis, I aggregate the statistics from this data, and present it [...]
Well, for some reason that I can’t determine, FeedBurner and my Wordpress.com feed stopped playing nicely this afternoon. And they won’t reload, because Wordpress.com wants to send all 1400+ articles in the database back to FeedBurner.
Sorry to do this to you all, but the FeedBurner feed is removed. Deleted.
Hope y’all switch to the Wordpress.com feed.

21 Sep 2006Last night, the folks at the hosting facility moved the servers to a new rack. The database server is up and data is coming in from the measurement agents, but the Web server is not yet back up.
I hope that this will be resolved later today. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I am still trying to sell the database server. But I might turn it into a file server with a couple of massive drives.

So, I have looked at the logs for the last few weeks, and determined that there are definitely a large number measurements that no [...]

21 Jul 2006After a few month hiatus, I am starting to code for GrabPERF again. I need to exercise my brain; as I am a hobbyist code mangler, I have to take on a project every now and then to keep my not-so-l33t skillz honed.
The change to the agent is one of efficiency. The current production agent [...]

14 Mar 2006Finally broke down and bought Samantha a new computer this morning.
Lowest common deniminator machine from Dell. But her current machine is showing its age and it’s time to make it a computer for the boys. I even have a new hard drive for it — the drive that used to hold the GrabPERF database.
Now maybe [...]
