Dear Skype:
I love the software. I am using it more for personal and work calls.
But I need to know when I have a voicemail. Now, not 24 hours from now.
I know you know about the problem. But it’s been over a month. I assume the voicemail notification wasn’t a problem before. So you know how [...]

I took the big leap today and upgraded the base Web server to Apache 2.2.3. This required some finagling with httpd.conf file, and a re-build of PHP, but once that was done, the app bounced up happy as a clam.
As usual, let me know if you see anything unusual — with the server, not with [...]

I just had a friendly chat with the American Express Account Security group. My card got flagged for unusual activity (“Why are charges from London appearing?”), and they sent me an e-mail.
I fired up Skype, called the US toll-free number and dealt with it in 2 minutes.
Have I mentioned that Skype rocks?

With some help from the IE7 team, I got IE7 installed. Turns out that there is a conflict between Microsoft (IE7 Beta2) and Google (Desktop Version 2). The Web history indexing performed by Google Desktop somehow conflicts with the way that IE7 Beta 2 handles Web history.
Now that it’s installed I want to try it [...]

I installed IE7 Beta 2 tonight. It lasted 15 minutes.
What ended its stay? Opening a new tab crashed the application.
Let me know when: It. Just. Works.
There is likely some secret squirrel hack that fixes this. I don’t want to hear it. An application at this level of pre-release development should not encounter a bug as [...]

Earlier today, I wrote about my issues with a conflict between Check Point and Netscreen VPN software. Well, I figured out how to make them work together.
I had the answer in my hands the whole time. Check Point software binds to the network interfaces on your machine. Once you remove this binding, Check Point refuses [...]

As part of the work I am doing for a client, I needed to install the Check Point VPN software. So far so good.
Until I want to try and connect to my company’s VPN, which uses Netscreen. It didn’t work.
Seems that the Check Point software does something that I both agree with and find frustrating [...]

I remember now why I got out of the hardware support business.
I am converting Samantha’s old desktop into a computer for the boys. It took me nearly two hours to get it to boot properly. Then it hung trying to install Windows XP. So back to Windows 2000 Pro.
That appears to be working. Once I [...]

Looks like Jeremy Wright and Darren Rowse have their own beefs with Google Blahnalytics (Term Courtesy of Jeremy Wright).
Gee Google, these two guys are opinion-shapers. I think maybe you should come out and say that there are issues.
Or say something.
Anything?
Or are your Overlords at the NSA still pawing over the data and won’t let you [...]
