I have just installed IE7b3 and every time I try to open a new tab
explorer shuts down. I'm not running any add-on's so I have no
idea what could be causing the problem's. I'm running IE7b2 on my
other PC and it works fine no problem' at all great browser. Any help would be good.
Thanks

I didn't have any problems with crashing in IE7 or bars not appearing or tabs not working, and I have Google Desktop as well. I haven't installed any patches or fixes and everything seems to work fine in IE. BUT... I did find that is was at least four times as slow at loading pages than either Firefox 1.5.something or Netscape 8.1.

I'm not saying FF or Netscape are perfect either. FF always crashes on me-- probably a faulty extension. And Netscape sucks at RSS, and for some reason I have any extra empty menu bar that I can't get rid of and won't display icons, only text.

I managed to solve the problem I had by running xmllitesetup.exe as explained in some comment in john's link given above.

BTW, I have Google Desktop Search and it is not causing any problems with IE7 beta.

I have to say that aside this minor issue I had, IE7 is an improvement, although there is no way it will become my default browser any time soon. Why? (a) lacks a fully customisable layout like Opera does, (b) I have yet to see how standards-compliant it really is, and (c) it is windows-only, and I like tools I am able to use the same in various platforms, as I am a multi-platform user. This last one is the most strong reason, as this is not expected to change in the future. Can you imagine IE for Linux? I can't.

My choices? Firefox/Mozilla (too slow) and Opera (my preferred one).

The most common cause of a crash on opening a new tab is that Google Desktop is installed. Google Desktop has a setting to index the browser's history files. There is a bug in GD that when it does this with the IE7 version of these files, it causes a crash. Telling GD to not index these files (or uninstalling GD) should cause the crash on new tab to go away.

Ernesto,
The tab bar being disabled is an issue you will run into if unpdate.exe is run directly rather than going through the normal setup flow.

John describes this in more detail here:
http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2006/05/01/587...

You can solve the problem by uninstalling and installing via the installation package as described in the post.

Hopefully that helps!
- Aaron

spierzchala, unfortunately it sounds like you have an incompatible add-on installed.

I understand this created a bad first experience with the beta. If you decide to re-installing beta 2 you can confirm if an add-on is the problem by running internet explorer in "no add-ons mode". If the problem goes away while in this mode then one of your installed add-ons is the problem - probably a toolbar. You can find the entry point for "no add-ons mode" in the start menu under Programs-Accessories-System Tools.

If you determine it is an add-on, you can use Manage Add-ons to disable the likely candidates to narrow down the problem further.

We try our best to be compatible with as many add-ons as possible. There is a chance the issue you saw has not yet been discovered, so if you do determine which add-on is causing the problem that would be helpful information.

Glad to see I am not the only one experiencing problems with IE7b2. Mine didn't exactly crashed, but the tab-bar is not visible. And believe me, I've done everything humanly possible to set it visible, and I couldn't. When I open a link in a new tab, the page goes front and I have no way to go to the original tab, except by pressing CTRL TAB.

I absolutely agree with you: bugs as simple, evident and easily reproduced as these ones should not be even thinkable in a product at this stage of development, and from the biggest software maker in the world.
